The State of the Union

It's about time I bring you up to date on what's goin' on in the land of The Schmoejoes, in more than 140 characters. We found our new drummer almost immediately after my April '10 post, and have been busy woodsheddin' it since. We've now played a handful of shows together, and it feels like he's been here the whole time.

His name is Brian Jentges, he lives in Mankato, and he's damn good. Even if you haven't seen The Schmoejoes, you've probably seen him around. He plays in the ten-piece band Powerhouse out of Mankato and The Jade Murphy Band, played in Minnesota Rock and Country Hall of Fame inductee The Shaw Band, and toured with Joey Molland's Badfinger. Oddly enough, I saw him with Badfinger a couple times in the late 90's, and then opened for Badfinger with my old band, The Lovejoys.

The world is small, stop poking me with your elbow!

This year is a big one for us; The Schmoejoes are in fightin' trim, we've already got some great shows lined up, and we're going to finish that record this year. Yes, 'that record'. The one I've been threatening you with for awhile. We're looking at late June for a release date. Stay tuned and follow us on Twitter for up-to-the-minute details, ways you can help and grab some nifty swag that will have your friends plotting your demise in jealousy.

This year (2011) is The Schmoejoes' seventh year; I am pretty sure this is the 5th year that I will say, it's "The Year of The Schmoejoes". I am also pretty sure that it is. We're going to post more often, give you some neat previews of what we're working on, and we're going to be playing out a lot, in a bunch of places.

Plenty of opportunity to fall in love with The Schmoejoes all over again.

Third Time's the Charm

The Schmoejoes are now on their 3rd drummer, ladies and gentlemen. We're up there with Spinal Tap at this point. What happened to Bob, our illustrative stick man? Well, he's discovered the joys of being the frontman of his very own band, Thor's Hammer. As time is in short supply these days, Jim and I paid him his generous severance package and sent him on his way to stardom.

In further news, after an exhaustive search for drummers in the wilds of Southern Minnesota, The Schmoejoes have spotted a potential replacement in the wild. We'll know more rather soon.

We're proud to say that this change has not affected our schedule, as we have several shows coming up, and several more still in the process of matchmaking.

Current Super-Schmoe Shows:

Saturday, May 22nd

1st Annual Farmington Soybean Festival

The Schmoejoes with our Waseca pals, Paraphasia, and some other Southern Minnesota favorites!

Sunday, June 20th

Mankato's Solstice Festival

One of Mankato's biggest events would not be complete without a visit from The Schmoejoes. Benefit for History Fest.

Sunday, July 4th

Waseca's Lakefest

The Schmoejoes have headlined the Waseca Lakefest for 3 years running, and this will be the 4th. Ha! Get it? The 4th? Of July? Referring to the date?

Yeah. We hope to have some special guests with us as well, so watch this space.

More info on shows, and the revealing of the secret identity of The Schmoejoes new drummer coming soon!

In other news, our pals at design{panic} have released something pretty damn cool. happnn.com - your local guide to arts, music, things to do, & places to go. You'll find many events in Southern Minnesota, greater MN, and ten other states. You can even add your own events, vote on ones you like, and comment on shows and events you've seen and want to see. You'll be seeing The Schmoejoes on happnn.com soon!

Some think playing in a band is all 'whee!", and would be easy. In the words of Ringo, "It ain't". Part 2 of my epic Waseca County News interview is done and posted, so I've collected it here in its entirety:

Part 1

Doris gets her oats at some point.
